Service Description

Sunday, March 15th; 12:30-2:30 (2 Hours) Permaculture designer and local homesteader, Lauren Craig, has homesteaded in urban, suburban, and rural settings, and designs homesteads for clients all across the U.S. In this class, she’ll share what’s most important when selecting a future homestead, as well as how to organize all the elements on your site in a sustainable manner, once you have it. Lauren will run through the more popular “homestead elements,” what requirements each have, and options for where to position them on a homestead. Such “elements” include various types of livestock, annual crops, perennial crops (orchard, berry patch, food forests, etc.), medicinal crops, compost, mushroom production, pond, rainwater harvesting, wood lot, apiary, pollinator habitat, etc. Regardless of budget, location, or size, Lauren will share strategies for how to live a more self-reliant lifestyle and what’s needed to support the homestead you desire. About Your Instructor: Lauren is a local homesteader and permaculture designer who spends her days designing gardens, landscapes and homesteads for clients worldwide. She specializes in incorporating edible, medicinal and native plants in her designs and is passionate about empowering others to grow more of their own food. She resides on her 1-acre homestead with her 2 children, and their goal is to generate 80% of the resources needed to sustain their existence within 10 years' time.
